A Esplai is an organization that provides educative alternatives to the free time of children, in Catalan cities and towns. The educators use part of their own free time to organize activities such as games, workshops, and excursions for the children. Since these activities take place in the free time of both educators and children, the educative role of Esplais is clearly different from that of schools, and also different from that of the parents.

Most Esplais share four principles/values: initiative, utopia, solidarity, and happyness. As I see it, we try to educate children so they grow up more critic and freer.

La Llar del Vent is the oldest Esplai in Sabadell, a city with about 200,000 people located approximately 20 kilometers north-west of Barcelona, in Catalonia. La Llar del Vent is also one of the Esplais with a longest tradition in fighting for better living conditions for the working class, for a more sustainable development of cities, and for the rights of the Catalan Nation.
